Why are planes and airliners so white?

Whether traveling on business or pleasure, the airplanes at the airport,

There are many civilian aircraft in the world, but most of them are white except for the tail part where the airline logo is struck.

Because white is the ground color, the paint price is the cheapest? That is not true.

Because it is a white color, whether it is white, blue or black, there is no difference in price of paint, cost of painting.

So why are most of the airplanes white?

The first reason is that white is the best result.

When the plane leaves the manufacturing factory for the first time, it is greenish.

The first background color is not white.

The plane is painting before it leaves the factory.

(A380 standard) Workforce of about thirty people work in three shifts to clean and paint new aircraft. Over about two weeks

Paint usually 2 layers, airline logos and various cute promotional designs to put up to 3 layers even put

The amount of paint here is about 1.1 tons.

Even the Boeing 737, which belongs to the smaller axis, only weighs as much as 500 kg of pure paint

This is not a huge loss for an airline that has six to eight adult passengers carrying fuel for free.

In addition, this paint work is done periodically every 7 to 8 years depending on the frequency and management status of the airplane.

Why is the airline paying the heavy paint work?

In fact, until the late 20th century, after World War II, airlines operated without paint.

A typical example is American Air. It was a pearl of gold, even to the value of the paint.

However, when the airline operates this way, the surface of the airplane is exposed to a high level of harsh environment

Long term wear from airborne micro-debris has increased so much that the maintenance cost of external maintenance is much higher than when paint is applied.

Not to mention safety issues.

Painting, on the other hand, protected the outer skin of the airplane, leading to a reduction in maintenance costs

White allows easy visibility of fuel leaks, rust, abrasion and cracks.

When I go to the airport, I sometimes see a wrapped airplane that can be seen in one or two lines.

The weight of this wrapped advertising paint is a tremendous burden to the weight of several passengers.

Passengers give more money, but painting is a work of weight and money.

The damage can be financially borne by advertisers.

The problem is that once a plane becomes a complex paint job, it becomes a headache later on.

The airlines that want to buy second-hand aircraft are

I was wondering how to get the most paint out of the entire airline.

I prefer primary colors that are not as bright as possible, and I prefer white among them.

In other words, the more colors the aircraft has on the outside market, the more likely it will be to sell it when it is put on the market.

But to erase it and sell it, there is money again.

Second, it is easy to find.

Results of surveys on rescue crews searching for crash aircraft

It is said that white is most visible when looking for airplane debris.

Just like a meteorite is found in the North Pole.

In some cases, birds have a high reflectance of white light.

It is claimed that the probability of bird strike can be lowered,

In contrast to gray, light blue or dark colored military aircraft or airlines

There is no evidence that there are more bird strikes.

Third, white is less burden on airplane skin because it eats less heat.

It is a common sense that a black car receives heat better than a white one.

The same is true for airplanes, where the surface temperature of the plane drops to minus 60 degrees below the flight altitude

Take off, 50 degrees high heat in the ground. It's about 100 degrees cold, and I'm experiencing extreme temperature differences.

The white color reduces the difference, and the less the difference is, the less stress the body receives.

This is because reducing the temperature gap between takeoff and landing and during flight is good for long term maintenance of the airplane.
